In honor of National Police Week, the Police Department opened its public safety complex, inviting the public to witness the work of the town’s finest at its first-ever Greenwich Police Day.
Residents were invited to view vehicles, motorcycles and other equipment on display and to meet and greet officers and take tours of the facility. Operational demonstrations were performed by the K-9 unit and other special teams. The Greenwich Police Honor Guard, the Police Explorers and the Cub Scouts were all involved in the afternoon’s activities.

“This is my life” chortled 87-year-old Adie Von Gontard, Jr., as he shepherded a visitor around his backcountry farm in a golf cart flanked by four miniature horses and a cocker spaniel. The longtime backcountry resident and avid outdoors enthusiast is to be honored next week by the Greenwich Rotary Club celebrating his designation as “Citizen of the Year.” The club will honor him with a dinner at the Round Hill Club on May 17.

In 1897 nine visionary Greenwich domestic women sat around the kitchen table of Mrs. Maria Alistock with their Bibles to study a few meaningful passages, and a spark was ignited.
The small group of African-American women soon began meeting every week.
With help from the Rev. Robert Willis of Richmond, Va., the group of devoted women had grown so large that they stepped out to establish a mission, calling it the First Baptist Missionary Baptist Church of Greenwich. Written by Ken Borsuk, Staff Reporter

In today’s society, people are more plugged into their computers and online devices than ever before, but for some that can still be an intimidating idea.
Not only are the leaps and bounds in personal technology confusing to some, but issues with breakdown and replacement can sometime cause agony to the consumer.
To rectify that, a local business has just relocated to Greenwich Avenue that promises not only to provide needed repairs, but educate people about all the uses for their computers and other devices to really maximize their uses.
For the company founders, this is not just about staying connected, it’s about a culture. That is the thinking behind MacInspires, which just moved from Byram over to 53 Greenwich Avenue. Written by Greenwich Post Staff

Having been bitten by the political bug last year, John Blankley is throwing his hat in the ring with a challenge for the state legislature against longtime incumbent State Rep. Livvy Floren.
A year after his unsuccessful race for first selectman, Mr. Blankley made his challenge in the 149th district, which covers a large portion of North Greenwich as well as parts of North and West Stamford, official this afternoon.
"The residents of Greenwich and Stamford are very important to the State of Connecticut," Mr. Blankley said in a press release announcing his campaign. "Our neighbors and friends throughout the district are passionate about what make our communities great. I look forward to sharing a discussion of issues that shape our lives and the lives of our children. I relish the opportunity to serve this part of Greenwich where I have made my home, and to make new friends in Stamford."

Greenwich High School Theater Arts will be presenting The Secret Garden on May 17, 18, and 19 in the GHS Auditorium. This family musical is based on the beloved children’s novel by Frances Hodgson Burnett and features music by Lucy Simon.
“The Secret Garden is about rebirth and second chances,” says director, Patty Cirigliano. “The characters are isolated and grieving. They are lost souls when the play begins. But by connecting to others around them, and moving outside themselves, they are healed and brought back to life metaphorically, just as the garden is.”Page 1 of 149
